Ascending Mt. Zion?
Why call this little informational email Ascending Mt. Zion. Well, because it includes all the means of grace we will be enjoying together on the Lord’s Day! Ephesians tells us that God “raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).” Then, Hebrews tells us what Mountain we have come to, and it is not burning and on fire with a fence around it so that we cannot approach (Exodus 20). No, no, “you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel (Hebrews 12:22-24).
I call it Ascending Mt Zion because it is what we do on the Lord’s Day morning, we remember where we truly are because we are in Him. We are those that can go behind the veil. Those that can enter in. Therefore, “Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods (Psalm 95:2-3)!”
