The Danger of Desiring the Praise of Men

Journaling before the Lord helps me process much of what I read in Scripture and other Christian devotional material. One of my favorite devotional writers is Thomas a Kempis. No writer outside of God in Scripture has affected my devotional life more than a Kempis, and I commend him to you with the caveat that he is what he is, a Roman Catholic monk. There are things that should be rejected, like with all human books, but the good he says far outweighs the bad. Some essential yet forgotten truths that modern Christians need to hear can be found in his little work, “The Imitation of Christ.” This little passage is one of them.
