What does Sunday Community Worship look like?
During our time of worship we devote ourselves to the same things the early church devoted themselves to in Acts 2:42 where it says, “they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” This passage guides our Community Worship. When we gather on the Lord’s Day we first spend time learning “Truth” from the sacred Scriptures. Then we take the Lord’s Table, “Together” as a response to the Word that has been preached. After that, we share a common meal that everyone contributes to, “Table“. Finally, we come back together confessing the Nicene Creed, and spend the remainder of our time before the “Throne” of God reading Scripture, singing Psalms and hymns of praise, and offering prayer to Him who is worthy.
We want our worship to reflect the multigenerational faithfulness we desire in our member families, so we include our children in our Sunday morning Community Worship. We do provide a Bible and Catechism class for our young children (under 10) during the 9:40 AM discipleship time. But we, as a general principle, resist generational fragmentation (see our Core Values).
We are pretty sure it was noisy and distracting on the plains of Moab that day, but it was also sacred, and sometimes there are more important things than perfect order and efficiency.
